This is the church that Eric talked about in the sermon on December 30. They are facing continued, ongoing persecution. Pray for them.
Starting Sunday, May 27, our service time moves to 9:30 am. We look forward to seeing you then.
This Sunday, Sept. 10, join us at 9:30 am as we kick off a new school year with Sunday School. We have Sunday School for all ages. Our children are once again using the Desiring God children's curriculum. Rich in content and great for helping our young children grow in their understanding of God, you don't want to miss out on this for them. If you are an adult, we will begin our study of the subject of Discipleship. The purpose of our class will be to gain a greater understanding of what discipleship is, how we go about making disciples, why discipleship is a vital part of our Christian lives, and much more. We've some great discussion planned as well as some practical helps for how to walk alongside a new or even older believer grow in Christ. We will be using Mark Dever's book, Discipling, to help guide our discussion. More books are available if you need one). I promise you don't want to miss this. Our focus this week will be: What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? What are the marks of being His disciple? After Sunday School, join us for our service at 10:30 am where we're continuing to look at 2 Peter 1:1-11 focusing our attention on verses 8-11 where Peter, in light of what Christ has done whose divine power is at work in us, continues to exhort us to pursue godliness... But, now lays out for us some of the benefits of doing so.
This week we're continuing our series through 2 Peter. Last week we focused on the divine power that is at work in us to live godly lives. It was a powerful reminder that we've been given EVERYTHING we need to lead godly lives. All of which is a gift from God through Christ. This Sunday, Sept. 3, we'll focus our attention our our response. In 2 Peter 1:5-7, Peter calls us to make every effort to live godly lives... He calls us to consider how we ought to live in light of this great gift of salvation Christ has granted to us. Peter then exhorts by faith to grow in knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness and brotherly love. Join us then as we think about what it means for us to make every effort to grow in these areas... How we might grow in each of these areas... And continue to be challenged to live godly lives as an expression of our understanding of everything Christ has indeed done for us... And don't forget! Our service times moves to 10:30 this week. We will have a time of fellowship at 9:30 am where donuts will be provided. We look forward to seeing you then!
This Sunday, August 20, the wait is over! We will begin a new series through the book of 2 Peter. Just as we saw in our study of 1 Peter, we'll learn what it means to live a life in full obedience to Christ. Being reminded as we do, of the amazing salvation that has been made available to us through Jesus Christ as the reason and the motivation for why we live to please Him. We will also be instructed in the matter of false teachers. How we identify them both by their words and their character. We'll be challenged to remember that one day the Lord will indeed fulfill His promise to come again. And so much more. With so many great truths for our hearts and minds to chew on and applications to make for how we ought to live, we hope you are able to join us as we journey through this incredible epistle. This Sunday, our focus will be on Peter's greeting in verses 1-2 where he begins by calling us to remember the great salvation that is ours in Christ. If you'd like to join us, our service begins at 9:30 am. We meet at Judah Christian School located at 908 N. Prospect Ave., Champaign, IL. For more information check us out at www.communityefc.org. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Don't forget! Judah is waxing their gym floors this week. Therefore, this Sunday, July 30, we will have church at Pastor Jason's house (if you need directions you can reach Pastor Jason at [email protected]). The service time is 9:30 am. We'll do breakfast together, worship the Lord through song, and then we'll continue our summer in the Psalms by looking at Psalm 5. It's an imprecatory Psalm which talks about invoking God's judgment on one's enemies. We'll spend some time looking at the Psalm and thinking about how we are to understand this Psalm and Psalms like it; asking the question can we pray like the Psalmist does? And how do we understand this in light of Jesus' command to pray for and love our enemies? Hope you can join us.
Our church is doing a Baptism Service this Sunday, June 11 at 10 am. WE WILL NOT BE MEETING AT JUDAH THIS WEEK. Instead, join us at Rotary Hill Shelter at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. You will want to use the Golf Course Entrance located at 405 N. Lake of the Woods Rd., Mahomet, IL. Follow the road which curves to the right and the signs directing you to Rotary Hill Shelter. There will be a lunch to follow. Church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, drinks, and any tableware needed. If you are planning to come, please bring a side dish and/or dessert to share as we will have a number of visitors coming to the service to witness the baptisms. If you are visiting with us, just come and enjoy some good food and fellowship with us. If the forecast is correct, it's going to be a very sunny but hot day for us (in the 90s)! Plan accordingly! We are under a shelter with fans, but it will still be a very warm day. I hope you can join us for this special service as we witness a number of our young people give public testimony of their faith in Jesus Christ and their desire to walk in obedience to Jesus by being baptized.
Don't forget our service time moves to 9:30 am tomorrow, May 28 for the summer! Join us as we continue to make our way through 1 Peter. This Sunday we'll look at some of Peter's final thoughts and exhortations to us for how we ought to think about suffering.
For the next two Sundays, September 25 & October 2, we will not be meeting at Judah Christian School. Instead, you can find us at Sodo Theatre which is located at 114 S. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. Our church is considering a change in venue. So for the next two weeks this is where you can find us! Located downtown, you can park either on the street as parking is free, or you can park in the Christie lots located on both sides of the building. Sunday School meets at 9:30 am. We have Sunday School available for all ages. Our adult class is learning about evangelism and how we might reach others with the good news of the gospel. We're not too far into the book we're reading called Evangelism. So, it's not too late to jump in if you want to join us. Then at 10:30 am we'll begin our time of Worship and the Word. We are currently making our way through the book of 1 Peter. This Sunday, we're looking at 1 Peter 1:13-16 where Peter, in light of the great gift of salvation granted to us in Christ and that he's been telling us about already, exhorts us to set our hopefully on the grace that will be ours and to be holy as God Himself is holy. If you want to hear more of what this means; how we set our hope fully on this grace to be ours and what it means to be holy as God is Holy, join us this Sunday as we consider this passage together. We'd sure love to have you!
Here is an update from the ministry in New Orleans that CEFC alum John Kirkpatrick serves with!
Peter's been talking about how great our salvation is. How we ought to praise God for it. How it's the Lord Himself who is safeguarding it for us. And how through trials and tribulations He's preparing us for a salvation ready to be reveal in the last time. This Sunday we're continuing our walk through 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 1:10-12. "Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look." Once again Peter highlights how great our salvation is by reminding us how the prophets searched and inquired about it, the apostles spoke of it, and how even angels long to look into it. Each of the groups of people give a powerful testimony as to how amazing this salvation is. If you want to be hear again of how great our salvation is in Christ and why these groups of people care so much about this salvation this is ours, join us Sunday, Sept. 18th at 10:30 am at Judah Christian School. We'd love to have you. Also, you are welcome to join us for Sunday School which starts at 9:30 am. We have Sunday School for all ages. In the Adult Sunday School Class, we're studying Evangelism. This week we're considering: What is Evangelism? If you want to learn more about evangelism, this is a great opportunity for you to do so. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
